LAKE HARTWELL A POPULAR LAKE ON INTERSTATE 85
One of the Southeast’s largest and most popular lakes, Lake Hartwell covers almost 56,000 acres in northeast Georgia (and into South Carolina), with 962 miles of shoreline.
The lake, and much of the land adjoining it, is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Lake Hartwell is bisected by Interstate 85, which makes Lake Hartwell only a little more than an hour away from Atlanta’s northeast suburbs.
Lake Hartwell is on the Savannah River but extends more than 4 miles up both the Tugaloo and Seneca rivers.
